We used to sing a song when I was a child.
Somebody prayed for me, had me on their mind, took the time to pray for me.
I have been very fortunate to have people in my life that prayed and pray for me. Growing up as one of ten children, I often would wake in the wee hours of the morning to the sound of my mother praying and calling on the Lord; Before dawn broke, as I peeked around the hallway corner of the living room, I’d see my Momma on her knees praying. I didn’t know at the time how her prayers would invade my life. I recently asked my Momma where did her prayer roots begin? She told me from her mother and that her grandmother was also a praying woman. In addition, on my Dad’s side of the family, I have a lineage of praying people. What a legacy!! You see, prayer has the power to impact generations to come. I’ve talked to others who have the same story of an aunt or great grandmother or a cousin whose prayers kept them and their families are reaping the benefits today. Our prayers can go where we can’t, physically. Our prayers can travel across nations, into spiritual realms, and unlock and break off chains. Prayers can thwart the enemy’s plans. Romans 8:34 says that Jesus makes intercession for us. If you don’t have anyone else praying for you, know this, Jesus is praying for you. Hebrews 7:25 goes on to proclaim, that He ever lives to make intercession for us.
Who are you praying for? Whose lives will your prayers impact today and tomorrow? Our prayers have the power to change destinies. Prayers are words we declare and speak to God. And God hears us, He listens, He watches over His word to perform it in our lives. (Jeremiah 1:12) God said to remind me of my word. Words are weighty that’s why the word declares, let our words be few. The whole world came to be by the Words of God. Since we’re made in the image of God, we have that same power. The bible says we can speak to the mountain and cause it to be moved. Whose mountain can you speak to today and declare it to come down? The word says we can call those things that be not into existence. I love what Jeremiah 23:29 declares,
“Is not My word like a fire?” says the LORD, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
Will you be the one God is calling for in these last and evil days (as the saints used to say). The voice of the Lord spoke to the prophet Isaiah, “Whom shall I send, who will go for us” (Isaiah 6:8) Isaiah answered the call He said here am I, send me! Who will go in their closet, who will go on their knees, who will feed the hungry, who will visit the sick, who will stand in the breach, who will intercede? I came across an article from Karen Gonzales of World Relief. She explained that in ancient bible times “cities had walls surrounding them to provide protection from enemies. When the wall was breached, the city was vulnerable to destruction; the only way to secure it was for people to risk their lives by literally standing in the gap in the wall and fighting the enemy.” Isn’t that powerful! Let us take up our arms, our weapons of warfare, and pray for somebody today. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but MIGHTY…!!
The other part of that song, I referenced in the beginning is,
I’m so glad they prayed, I’m so glad they prayed, I’m so glad they prayed for me.
Prayer brings relief. It lifts burdens, calms fears. I’m so glad somebody prayed for me. They took up a wailing for me. There have been times in my life, that I literally felt the prayers of the saints.
Beloved, let us pray one for another…. May God ignite our hearts…
